Rumours of a clash between the two tech billionaires started this week. After Musk said he would be ‘up for a cage fight’ with the founder of Facebook, there has been no end to speculation on the bout. Mark Zuckerberg responded with ‘send location,’ a reference to famed fighter Khabib Nurmagomedov. UFC President Dana White thinks the fight could be ‘the biggest of all time.’
Chael Sonnen, former UFC Middleweight, told Ariel Helwani that he had spoken to Zuckerberg. He claimed that ‘Zuckerberg contacts me because he saw your tweet that I’m coming on.’ He went on to say that Zuckerberg told him he had ‘agreed to fight Elon Musk at UFC 300.’ Calling it a ‘very big deal,’ the former title challenger predicted pay-per-view numbers above 20 million.

A spokesperson for Zuckerberg quickly refuted Sonnen’s claims. ‘I have confirmed with Mark that he did not call Chael Sonnen.’
This news follows Zuckerberg’s recent success in his first Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Tournament. At BJJ Tour Silicon Valley, he took home first and second place in No Gi and Gi respectively. Meanwhile, Musk claims to have experience in ‘Judo, Kyokushin’ and ‘No-rules street fighting.’
The potential bout has excited the minds of many MMA fans and personalities. Prolific fighters such as Jon Jones and Georges St-Pierre have offered their assistance as coaches. Dana White has also announced that any potential proceeds would go to charity, giving good reason for the two billionaires to clash.
UFC 300 will be a huge landmark event in the history of the company. Previous centennial events have boasted star studded cards. UFC 200 featured the return of WWE superstar Brock Lesnar, as well as appearances by company legends including Jose Aldo, Daniel Cormier and Amanda Nunes. Fan expectations are therefore high for the much anticipated night. This makes it seem a natural date for the showdown between the two billionaires.
