The UFC is back this evening after a short week’s break after a hectic schedule. UFC Vegas 62 takes the main stage from the Apex in Las Vegas.
The fight card will be accessible to watch in the UK on BT Sports live from 9pm GMT and for US viewers 4pm EST on ESPN +.
The main event of the evening consists of a women’s flyweight bout between Alexa Grasso and Viviane Araújo. It’s a pivotal fight for both women in terms of the rankings. Grasso currently stands at #5, with Araújo at #6. The pair were originally scheduled to meet on August 13th, but visa issues for Grasso forced the UFC to adjust and re-book for a later date.
Sean Strickland and Jared Cannonier were supposed to headline tonight’s fight card, but a finger infection forced Strickland to withdraw and push the fight to an event down the line. Meaning Grasso and Araújo have an opportunity to take full advantage of the situation.
Grasso enters the bout with three back-to-back wins on her record since moving to the flyweight division. Prior to her last win over Joanne Calderwood, she attained wins over Ji Yeon Kim and Maycee Barber. Araújo has won three out of her four fights under the company since early 2020. She has victories over Montana De La Rosa, Roxanne Modafferi, and Andrea Lee, with her loss coming to Katlyn Chookagian at UFC 262.
The co-main event features a bantamweight bout between Jonathan Martinez and fan-favourite Cub Swanson. Swanson comes into the Octagon for the first time in 2022 and drops to bantamweight. UFC Vegas 62 lost a flyweight barnburner between Brandon Royval and Askar Askarov due to weight-management issues on Askarov’s side.
