Yair Rodriguez took advantage of his height and speed advantages at UFC 314, outclassing Patricio Pitbull on his way to a clear 30-27 victory on all scorecards. Rodriguez used his kicking game to keep the fight at his range while stuffing several takedowns. He also managed to drop Pitbull in Round 3 with a big right hand. The Mexican returns to the win column in a potential title eliminator and picks up one of the biggest wins of his career over Bellator’s best.
Rodriguez returned from a 14-month layoff following a loss to Brian Ortega at UFC Mexico City. “El Pantera” said in the cage that he was promised a title shot by Hunter Campbell with a win over Pitbull. Whether that’s true is yet to be seen, but Rodriguez is primed for a big fight next.
