The 100th Apex event is upon us and one of the new fan favourites Carlos Prates gets his opportunity in the main event.
The Brazilian is part of Fighting Nerds, one of the most inform gyms in the sport and the welterweight can climb into the rankings with a victory over Neil Magny. He is a wicked striker with vicious finishing ability. Since joining the UFC he has finished all three fights and earned performance bonuses on each occasion. Most recently he was the first fighter to knockout LI Jingliang in mightily impressive fashion at UFC 305. The exceptional form has earned this main event slot however he is facing the ever present rankings gatekeeper Neil Magny. One of the most experienced fighters on the roster, with 33 UFC fights under his belt Magny has unfortunately never been able to cement himself at the top of the 170lbs division. His best form came in 2014-2015 with a seven fight win streak but after defeat to Demian Maia he has suffered horrendously with inconsistency.
The rest of the card features more UFC veterans with the likes of Gillian Robertson and Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos. In the co-main event an exciting debutant makes his walk to the octagon, a two weight champion from ONE Championship. Reinier de Ridder held both the Heavyweight and Light Heavyweight belts in ONE before losing them both to Anatoly Malykhin, the only man to ever beat the Dutchman. Grappling is by far his strongest asset with 71% of his professional victories coming via submission, however his opponent will fancy his chances against him on the ground. Gerald Meerschaert is also a submission specialist with over 50 pro bouts and 29 career submissions, he will be aiming for his 30th this weekend.
