After a blistering event in Charlotte last weekend, the UFC heads back to the Apex tonight for UFC Fight Night: Mackenzie Dern vs Angela Hill. Originally the card was headlined by a title eliminator bout between Raquel Pennington and Irene Aldana. But the latter was pulled from the card to serve as Julianna Pena’s replacement in her title fight against Amanda Nunes. Pennington was also removed from the card and will be the backup fighter for that bout.
All the changes in the main event led to Dern vs Hill being moved from a three-rounder on last week’s card to a five-rounder on this week’s. Dern is ranked 8th in the women’s strawweight division and looks to bounce back from her narrow majority decision loss to Yan Xiaonan last time out. She takes on UFC veteran and former Invicta champion Hill. Hill is currently riding a two-fight win streak and looks to leap up the rankings if she wins, as she currently holds the 14th spot. The bout will likely head to the scorecards, with the championship rounds being vital for the victory in this one.
A crucial fight between Edmen Shahbazyan and Anthony Hernandez goes down in the co-main event spot. Both contenders are on the cusp of the top 15, so a win tonight will get them a step closer to the rankings.
