UFC 312 reignites a middleweight rivalry that’s been brewing since last January. The UFC has been keen to re-book Dricus Du Plessis Vs Sean Strickland, despite other viable options.
In the first fight, Du Plessis earned the split decision claiming the title, becoming the first South African to do so. The decision was debated by many, none more so than Sean Strickland.
Both have secured victories since their previous meeting. Du Plessis defended his title against Israel Adesanya at UFC 305. Winning the bout via submission in the fourth round.
Strickland fought off Paulo Costa over five rounds, scoring a split decision at UFC 302 in June.
In the co-main event, the strawweight title is on the line. Reigning champion Weili Zhang faces a new stylistic conundrum as Tatiana Suarez challenges for her first championship.
Zhang has been a force in the division, becoming a two-time champion. Her second reign has seen her defend the title twice since her UFC 281 victory.
Suarez has always been a projective championship contender. However, injuries and misfortunes have seen her miss out on some key years inside the octagon. She returns to the cage for the first time since August 2023.
