Dana White on his Twitter announced a stacked card for UFC 308 taking place in Abu Dhabi October 26th. The head of the UFC as is tradition announced the main card of an event in video. And this announcement does not disappoint.
UFC 308 Main and Co-Main Events
The main event will be an absolute banger being Ilia Topuria’s first defence of his belt since dethroning Alexander Volkanovski. His opponent will be none other than Max “Blessed” Holloway getting another shot at featherweight gold. This was really the only fight that made sense for both guys with the way Topuria dispatched Volk and Holloway’s continued success at 145 and 155. This extremely exciting match up could see Max once again become champion or see Ilia add another huge name to his resume.
The co-main event will be a rebooking of a hotly anticipated match up. Robert “The Reaper” Whittaker will face off against Khamzat “Borz” Chimaev. Initially cancelled due to Chimaev having health issues. However, luckily for us and Khamzat the fight has now been re-booked. A win for either man could have big implications for the middleweight title picture.
Main Card
Another fight included in the main event is Ciryl Gane facing off against Alexander Volkov in a rematch. Since their first fight back in 2021 a lot has changed Gane failing twice to capture UFC heavywweight gold and Volkov after losing to Aspinall steadily building a big win streak. Volkov has demonstrated significant improvement regarding his grappling and is coming off the back of an impressive win over Sergei Pavlovich. A win for either fighter could mean title implications and a possible fight with interim champion Tom Aspinall.
Also included on the main card is Magomed Ankalaev vs Aleksandar Rakic. Ankalaev is riding a long winning streak seeking champ Alex Pereira. And a win over Rakic could just do that. Rakic is coming off a devastating KO loss to Jiri Prochazka however Rakic looked great against Jiri. A win for Rakic could also put him in the title picture by defeating someone on as long a win streak as Ankalaev.
The rest of the card has not been revealed but the main event and the rest of the main card is spectacular. All high stakes match ups which will have implications for each of their divisions. Dana has certainly delivered for UFC 308 and with a solid undercard can be even greater.
