Tyson Fury has been a staple in the heavyweight division for many years now. He has had some extremely impressive wins over the likes of Wladimir Klitschko and Deontay Wilder. Fury is well known for his vibrant personality and his brilliant boxing ability. He stands at a whopping 6″9 but he moves and has the speed of a cruiserweight. His size and speed paired with his fantastic boxing skills is what has made him so successful in the sport for so many years. He has been a puzzle that no fighter had been able to figure out. The closest he had come to losing previous to last night’s bout was in this first fight with Deontay Wilder. This is the fight that really showed the heart and determination of Fury, surviving a brutal knockdown in the 12th round.

Fury vs Usyk

Last night we saw one of the biggest heavyweight title fights in the past 25 years. Fury vs Usyk was a long-awaited yet highly anticipated fight between who many people are the two best in the division. The fight did not disappoint, through the first 6 rounds, it was a very back-and-forth affair. Fury showed lots of his trademark showboating, while Usyk showed plenty of footwork and speed. Then in the 7th round, Usyk began to take control of the fight and showcase his movement and boxing IQ. In the 9th round, Usyk clipped Fury with a monstrous left hand. Fury showed great heart in refusing to go down being saved by the ropes on multiple occasions in the round. Throughout the rest of the fight, Fury was predominantly on the defensive as Usyk was in complete control.

The official result was Oleksandr Usyk defeats Tyson Fury via split decision (115-112, 113-114, 114-113)

Post-fight controversy

After the scorecards were announced and Usyk was declared the winner, the pair of fighters gave their immediate reactions. Usyk thanked his late father and dedicated his win to his home nation of Ukraine. Fury’s immediate reaction has definitely caused a stir. Fury stated “His (Usyk) country is at war so people are siding with someone whose country is at war. I won that fight.” Ukraine is notably in a war with Russia that has taken the world by storm and affected lots of people so Fury bringing this up has left a sour taste in the mouths of the public.

Fury has gone on to receive a lot of criticism on social media for his post-fight comments.

That post fight interview from Tyson Fury was embarrassing and gross. Not a chance in hell he won the fight for a start and to suggest Uysk won on a sympathy vote because his country is at war is classless and just grim tbh.

Embarrassing post-match interview from Fury. As embarrassing as the judge's scorecard who gave him the win.

All spin though. Need to hype a rematch for a fight that was clearly one-sided.#FuryUsyk pic.twitter.com/JzUVI02cF3
