Tom Aspinall believes Jon Jones will have to face him sooner or later.
Tom Aspinall, the interim UFC heavyweight champion, is confident that Jon Jones won’t be able to avoid him indefinitely. Although Jones recently defended his title at UFC 309 against Stipe Miocic, Aspinall thinks a showdown between them is inevitable.
During UFC 309, Aspinall was ready to step in as a backup fighter but didn’t get the call. Instead, he enjoyed a relaxed weekend. In a conversation with Ariel Helwani on “The MMA Hour,” Aspinall shared his thoughts on potentially facing Jon Jones.
“I don’t think it would have ever happened,” Aspinall said when asked if Jones would have fought him on short notice. When Helwani questioned further, he confidently replied, “Absolutely.”
Aspinall Confident Jon Jones Will Face Him
Fans and analysts have been speculating that Jon Jones might be dodging a fight with Tom Aspinall. Rumors intensified after UFC 309, especially when Jones allegedly mentioned he would only fight Aspinall for significant “f**k you” money.
Despite these remarks, Tom Aspinall remains hopeful. He believes Jon Jones’s competitive spirit and pride will eventually lead him to accept the challenge.
“I think he secretly wants to. He has a gigantic ego,” Aspinall noted. “He should have it; he’s one of the best ever. But he hates the fact that people say I can beat him. He can’t sleep at night,” he claimed.
The potential matchup between Aspinall and Jones has been gaining momentum. Some insiders suggest that Jones is not avoiding the fight but using the situation to negotiate a better deal.
Aspinall understands the business aspect but emphasizes that Jon Jones deserves a bigger payday not just because of his legacy but because facing Tom Aspinall would be a significant challenge.
“It looks positive, that’s what I can say,” Aspinall shared. “It looks very positive, and I think people want to see it a lot. People are craving it, and that’s always a positive sign.”
As the discussion continues, many fans are eager to see if Jon Jones will step into the octagon with Tom Aspinall. The anticipation is building, and it seems that Jones can’t dodge Aspinall forever.
