Shavkat Rakhmonov’s Path to the UFC Welterweight Title Delayed

Shavkat Rakhmonov’s wait for a UFC welterweight title shot has been extended following an unexpected announcement from Dana White.

After an incredible run in the UFC, during which Rakhmonov maintained his flawless 100% finish rate, he was finally granted a title shot against Belal Muhammad at UFC 310. However, the highly anticipated matchup fell apart when Muhammad withdrew due to a broken toe and a resulting bone infection.

Despite the setback, Rakhmonov stayed on the card and secured a decision victory over Ian Machado Garry. Post-fight, Muhammad entered the octagon to face off with Rakhmonov, hinting at a possible rescheduling of their title clash. However, the situation has taken yet another unexpected twist.

Shavkat Rakhmonov’s Title Shot Delayed Again Amid Surprising UFC Shakeup

This past Wednesday, UFC President Dana White made a surprising announcement, revealing that Belal Muhammad will defend his welterweight title against Jack Della Maddalena at UFC 315 on May 10th.

The news shocked many, as most expected Shavkat Rakhmonov to receive the title shot after missing out in December, Adding to the surprise, Jack Della Maddalena now been elevated to the title fight, and Leon Edwards will instead heading UFC London on March 22 against Sean Brady.

In response to Dana White’s announcement, Rakhmonov took to social media to share his reaction. He shared that he was offered a title fight at UFC 315 but had to decline because of an injury. According to UFC commentator Daniel Cormier, Rakhmonov fought with a torn MCL during his victory over Ian Machado Garry at UFC 310, likely explaining the delay in his title aspirations.

Big thanks to the UFC for offering me the shot at the belt first. Unfortunately, due to injury, I won’t be ready for May. I’ll be facing the winner later this year! 👊🏼

Rakhmonov Eyes Late 2025 Title Shot Amid UFC 315 Uncertainty

The 30-year-old Shavkat Rakhmonov now finds himself playing the waiting game, closely watching the UFC 315 main event fight unfold.

Jack Della Maddalena has repeatedly called for a fight with Rakhmonov, as both have been on parallel paths toward the top of the welterweight division. Rakhmonov hopes neither fighter suffers a serious injury on May 10, as it could delay his title shot further.

Injuries have already plagued both competitors recently. Della Maddalena has been side-lined since March after breaking his hand in his fight against Gilbert Burns. If the winner avoids injury, Rakhmonov could finally fight for the welterweight title from October 2025 onwards.
