Former UFC welterweight Mike Perry has signed a multi-fight deal with growing promotion BKFC.
The American is currently 3-0 under the BKFC banner, and will look to continue adding to his unbeaten record within the sport.
Perry last fought in the UFC just over two years ago, falling short against fellow countryman Daniel Rodriguez via unanimous decision. ‘Platinum’ competed in Dana White’s promotion for five years, putting together a record of 7-8 with notable wins over Paul Felder and Mickey Gall.
Shortly after his final UFC bout, Perry traded mixed martial arts for bare-knuckle boxing. He has since become one of the sports’ most-renowned competitors, and recently beat fellow-ex UFC titan Luke Rockhold in the latter’s promotion debut via a second-round finish due to injury.
David Feldman Quotes on Mike Perry Deal
BKFC announced the 31-year-old had signed a multi-fight deal on Wednesday. Promotion President and Founder David Feldman appeared delighted to agree a new contract for his biggest star, and explained the effort which had gone into making the extension happen.
He told MMAJunkie: “I am absolutely thrilled to make the announcement today of ‘Platinum’ Mike Perry re-signing with BKFC.
“His presence in our promotion has truly galvanized the company. For the last couple of months, I’ve been contacted every day from fans and the media inquiring about when he was fighting next. With this announcement today, we can finalize plans for his highly anticipated return to the squared circle.”
Perry first announced himself to bare-knuckle boxing fanbase with a unanimous decision win over Julian Lane on his debut. He subsequently followed this up with a majority decision win over Michael Page half-a-year later.
The Michiganian’s fame lept further after the Rockhold victory. Global superstar Conor McGregor entered the ring post-fight for an impromptu face off with Perry, sending many into hysteria. Combat sport enthusiasts are now eagerly awaiting news of a follow-up to the scenes at BKFC 41.
Perry is now secured to the promotion for a further set of fights. News of the American’s next bout is yet to be announced.
