Marvin Vettori has pulled out of a main event fight on April 6th due to what he described as a “freak accident”.
Vettori was due to fight against Brendan Allen in the main event of UFC Vegas 89. The iron chinned Italian explained the reasoning for pulling out in a recent Instagram post. It is also the first time, pro or amateur, that Vettori has pulled out of a fight. He expressed this in the recent social media video and then sent a ‘strong message’ to previously scheduled opponent Brendan Allen.
Marvin Vettori Explains Why He Pulled Out of Brendan Allen Fight
“Now, to my f****** opponent, it’s on,” Vettori said. “You’re not going to hide no more. I know I’m going to see you — either in the cage, or not. I’ll see you around. You know, I’m fed up with all your bulls***. You sit down in front of a computer and become Hulk. When you see me, you’re like a quiet little girl — all smiles, trying to be nice. I punked you once already, you know that.
“I sat down and told you [that] you got knocked out twice by these two dudes. You know what happened over there, you funny looking thing, man. You look like you came out of a Griffin episode.”
Despite some frustration from both sides, Vettori quickly reminded Allen who was doing who a favour, and that he would smash his face when the pair eventually meet again.
“It’s on, I’m the big shot, you’re going to have to beg me for another shot. I don’t give a f*** about fighting you, I’m [doing] you a favor. I’ll smash your face just because you look funny to me. That’s it, I’ll see you soon.”
This also means Vettori would have been our of the octagon for almost a year after a loss to Jarod Cannonier last June. Vettori has previously fought for a world title against Israel Adesanya back in June 2021. He has since gone 2-2 and looked to beat Brendan Allen to return to title contention. His scheduled opponent Brendan Allen has been on a seven fight win streak since losing to Chris Curtis in 2021.
Allen will now face the man who last beat him, Chris Curtis on April 6th for UFC Vegas 89.
