Jon Jones Reveals His Top-5 Greatest MMA Fighters of All Time

It has been over three years since we last saw Jon Jones in action. You have to go back to UFC 247 for his last appearance, where he scored a controversial win against Reyes. But now, we are just a week away from seeing arguably the greatest of all time make that walk once again.

“Bones” returns to make his heavyweight debut at the iconic T-Mobile Arena in Sin City. He will fight for the vacant heavyweight belt against the former interim heavyweight champion, Ciryl Gane. Negotiations were ongoing for a while for the return of Jones. But by the end of last year, Dana White claimed that the former light heavyweight champion was “literally ready to fight anyone”.

Deciding a definitive top 5 MMA fighters of all time list is near impossible. Factors often discussed when debating the best to ever do it include; the level of competition, title defences, fight style, record and even their active years, since modern-day MMA is evolving so quickly.

However, in an interview with RMC Sport, Jon Jones weighed in on the much-debated topic.

“My top five, let me see here. If I am allowed, I’d say myself. Anderson Silva, Georges St-Pierre, Khabib Nurmagomedov, and Jose Aldo. Jose Aldo, those are my favourites at least.” 

One of the most notable fighters Jones has left out of his list is Demetrius Johnson. “Mighty Mouse” holds the record for most consecutive UFC title defences at 11 and is often included in fight fan’s top 5 lists. UFC commentator Joe Rogan has, on multiple occasions, stated that DJ is the greatest mixed martial artist of all time. So it’s interesting to see Jon put Khabib on his list over Johnson when he has dished out a few digs at “The Eagle’s” title reign over the years.
