John Fury, father of boxer Tommy Fury, openly admits he wouldn’t have minded if KSI had won the fight. According to him, the bout between KSI and Tommy Fury, which headlined the Prime Card in Manchester, England, wasn’t enjoyable to watch.

KSI started strong, even causing Fury to lose a point. However, both fighters lacked intensity, throwing minimal punches. When the fight concluded, it was uncertain who would emerge victorious.

Tommy Fury won by unanimous decision, but due to a scoring error, it was initially recorded as a majority decision. John Fury admitted he wouldn’t mind if KSI had won, recognizing the close fight.

John Fury’s Take on the KSI vs. Tommy Fury Bout

In a recent interview with BoxingSocial, John Fury, a respected figure in boxing, shared his candid thoughts. Fury began by emphasizing the crucial role of fighting styles in shaping the dynamics of a match. “To be honest with you, styles make fights and it wasn’t a good watch, cause I’m used to seeing two men stand up and box properly,” he remarked, expressing his disappointment at the lackluster bout.

Fury highlighted a significant challenge faced by Tommy Fury during the fight – the stark contrast in backgrounds between the fighters. He explained, “When another man’s from another background completely to what we’re doing, it’s hard to replicate for sparring.” Fury’s frustration was palpable as he criticized the excessive holding tactics employed by KSI. “I didn’t expect the referee to let him get away with as much holding. He was holding him constantly and he couldn’t get his arms out, he was smothering his work, it was horrible to watch,” he said, underscoring the difficulties Tommy faced due to these tactics.

Despite the disappointing match, John Fury acknowledged the efforts put forth by both fighters. He recognized their status as novices in the boxing world, empathizing with the immense pressure Tommy bore each time he stepped into the ring. “They both had a go and that’s what it is, but don’t forget they’re only novices, aren’t they?” Fury pointed out, shedding light on the challenges faced by fighters early in their careers.

Fatherly Insight

Speaking about Tommy’s struggle under the weight of expectations, Fury displayed a father’s understanding. “Look at the pressure on Tommy every time he goes in the ring, it’s nothing but pressure because he has to do the business, doesn’t he?” he said. Despite the challenges, Fury remained optimistic about his son’s growth, attributing Tommy’s experiences to the learning curve every budding boxer must navigate. “It’s only experience, he’ll get better,” he affirmed, highlighting the valuable lessons these encounters offer.

In a philosophical tone, Fury acknowledged the unpredictable nature of boxing, emphasizing that training can only prepare a fighter to a certain extent. “You can’t train for people like that,” he noted, acknowledging the inherent uncertainty in facing opponents with diverse backgrounds and tactics. He concluded with a pragmatic view on the fighters’ willingness to engage. “At the end of the day, if they don’t want to fight, they don’t want to fight, do they? Enough said, can’t say anymore,” he stated, encapsulating the essence of the sport’s challenges and the resilience it demands from its participants.
