Jake Paul is not one for pleasantries when it comes to his opponents but he has given credit to Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
The ‘Problem Child’ is set to face the former middleweight champion on June 28th in California.
Paul returns since his controversial mega fight against Mike Tyson last year, the first boxing event streamed live on Netflix.
But he faces a tougher challenge in a slightly younger fighter for Chavez Jr who recently beat former MMA fighter Uriah Hall over six rounds.
When asked where the Mexican places on his resume, he gave an interesting response.
Speaking to DAZN, he said: “I would say Chavez is most likely going to be the toughest opponent (I have faced yet), the most experienced, literally the most amount of fights out of all of my opponents.
“He’s a former world champion which I haven’t faced a former boxing world champion other than Mike Tyson but obviously Mike was older.
“Chavez is still in his 30’s so I think this is gonna be the toughest one.”
While the 39-year-old may be more experienced and younger, his record in recent years makes for hard reading.
He is currently 4-3 in his last seven fights, struggling for consistent form after losing to Canelo Alvarez.
A split decision upset by Anderson Silva was unexpected but Chavez clearly did not want to be in the ring.
Could Jake Paul land a world title shot?
Surrounding this fight has been murmurs of a potential for the 28-year-old novice to be in line for title opportunity.
In the co-main event unified cruiserweight champion Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez defends against Yoneil Dorticos.
During this build-up, promoter Oscar De La Hoya and Paul have floated the idea of the two clashing.
Ramirez did respond via DAZN saying he is ‘ready’ for whatever the influencer turned boxer brings to the table.
But he also made it clear that he would not be the champion as long as he holds the belts.
The results of both fights on Saturday night could be very interesting for the cruiserweight division.
However, if the YouTube star was to land a shot, there would be fair outcry from fans and boxers alike.
