Georgia Hackland has her eyes looked on Saturday’s bout with Roxanne Lewin at Rise and Conquer 10. The Scottish Hit Squad representative has made it clear that her main goal is to leave Houghton le Spring with her hand raised.
Hackland vs Lewin is just one fight on a stacked fight card that will go down at the Rainton Arena this Saturday. Overall, the card consists of 25-fights, from professional contests to amateur, and even some youth action for the very first time.
We had the opportunity to catch up with Georgia ahead of fight night. Read the full exclusive interview below.
Interview With Georgia Hackland
It’s fight week for yourself, Georgia. How are you handling the emotions in the lead up to Saturday?
I’ve been fairly relaxed, trying not to think too much about Saturday just now.
Before we get into the fight, I’d love to touch on Brian Gallagher/The Scottish Hit Squad’s impact on you by beginning the women’s classes and really getting a great team of women together?
The women’s classes are great for the gym. I have loved taking the women’s kickboxing. It’s been great building a strong team of women.
Hackland Talks Journey Into MMA
I like to ask those I have not spoken to before why they chose to walk into the gym for the first time. What enticed you to tape a leap and get into mixed martial arts? Can you remember how it made you feel the first time as opposed to now?
I played Rugby for a while and loved contact sport. I also loved watching the UFC every weekend, so I thought it would be something good to try.
What are the main life principles that training and staying disciplined have taught you? You often hear fighters tell stories about how much training benefits them even outside of the gym? Does that apply to you?
Training has taught me that I need to be consistent with everything I do and to push myself out of my comfort zone to see results.
Expectations Ahead of Fight Night
What expectations have you set for yourself in terms of the fight, and any personal goals you have set within yourself that you hope you can be extremely proud of yourself come Saturday night?
My main goal is to get my hand raised. I’m not thinking about anything else just now.
Touching on your opponent Roxanne if we can. What do we know about her, if anything? Or have you not even looked into Roxanne due to the lack of knowledge of her? Assuming it’s been a case of focussing on your own skills?
I know that she was in a reality MMA TV show and had had an exhibition bout. Brian had watched it. I’ve been focusing on myself to make sure I’m getting the most out of my training.
Help in Preparation
Who’s helped you the most get ready for this fight? Are there any girls you’d like to shout out?
Brian has put a lot of work into me, getting me ready for this fight. All the girls at the Scottish hit squad who have helped me in my rounds, also the girls from Ayrshire hit squad who have travelled up most weeks for rounds, as well as getting rounds in with Katrina King from TFT.
Those in attendance outside the gym walls perhaps get to see you for the first time in action. Tell us, what can we expect from Georgia Hackland this Saturday at Rise and Conquer?
Just expect to see an exciting fight. I’ve put a lot of work into this camp. Im going in to give 100% and make sure I get the win.
Assuming you have fun on Saturday and get your hand raised. How will you be celebrating with friends and family?
I’ll be celebrating by watching the rest of the team fight on the show. Then heading back home to go out with my friends.
