Conor Benn wants ‘revenge’ after losing to Chris Eubank Jr
Conor Benn is determined to avenge his loss to Chris Eubank Jr after they delivered one of the best fights in British boxing history on Saturday.
The fight between Conor Benn and Chris Eubank Jr. was one of the most anticipated boxing matches in recent years. However, it was equally met with criticism. Many had issues with the weight gap between the two and the rehydration clause imposed on Eubank, while others are still not satisfied with the reasons given for Conor Benn’s failed drug tests in 2022.
All of this was forgotten when the pair began to exchange in the ring. Both fighters appeared to be hurt at various points throughout the bout as the fight went the distance. Chris Eubank Jr won the fight via unanimous decision, but Conor Benn’s stock also rose despite the defeat.
Speaking in his post-fight press conference, Conor Benn said:
“I want my revenge. I think inactivity played a big part. It’s quite hard because the past two and a half years what had gone on, not fighting back here, to then coming home to this.
“It’s just a lot of first times for me today. First stadium fight, first time fighting back here in three years, first fight at 160. I had Eubank hurt multiple times, three, four times in there, noticeably, just couldn’t get the finish. So I’ll make sure for next time that the finish is there.”
Potential rematch set for September
If it is revenge that Conor Benn is seeking, then he may only have to wait a couple of months.
Turki Alalshikh, head of Riyadh Season, told The Ring in an interview that plans are already in place for a rematch.
“If they’re not injured and ready, we want the rematch in late September at Tottenham.
“The British fans were amazing and I thank them.”
After a 12-round war of that nature, only time will tell if the five-month turnaround is realistic for both men.
Negotiations should not be a factor that holds up any potential rematch, as Conor Benn and Chris Eubank Jr initially signed a two-fight deal.
