Tom Aspinall’s dad showed his frustration at the UFC over the delay of announcing the Jon Jones fight.
With this worrying development, fans are left anxious as to whether the fight will even take place. Despite the UFC and Dana White’s intention to reaffirm that Aspinall would fight for the title next, no date has been released.
Tom Aspinall’s Dad Rages Over Jon Jones’ Fight Delay
Whilst filming a week in his life, a certain section of Tom Aspinall’s vlog interested fans. The moment in question was Aspinall’s father, Andy, showing his frustration at the fight not materializing. In the clip, published on YouTube, Tom Aspinall’s father (Andy) said, “It’s stupid. I have no idea the reason why the UFC don’t really want Tom to fight anybody other than Jon Jones.
“They’re saying ‘stay tuned.’ That’s the message they wanted Tom to give out to people. We had the meeting with Hunter [Campbell] (UFC CBO), and they’re going to try and fix the fight with Jon Jones.
Tom Aspinall’s dad went on to say, “Tom’s done all he can do. He’s fought in the middle of the night to defend an interim, he fought for an interim…and he won that. What else can he do?”
“He can fight lesser-ranked people than Jon Jones. But that means he may miss the opportunity to fight Jon Jones, which is massive because he’s the champion and the best there’s ever been. If Tom beats him, that’s great, but what other choice does he have? It’s all a bit funny to me.”
Fans Left Anxious After Latest Development
Despite the UFC and Dana White reiterating multiple times that Tom Aspinall would fight for the heavyweight title, no deal has been agreed. Andy’s latest outburst shows that the fight is still no closer to being announced.
Whilst many fans blame Jones for his part and the UFC for failing to close the fight, it remains no secret that the American didn’t want to fight the interim champion. Jones had been planning to face Alex Pereira, but that fight won’t happen as Dana White spoke last time out.
