Henry Cejudo Wants Michael Chandler to Retire After UFC 314
As the build-up to UFC 314 was taking place, fans were excited for the co-main event between Paddy Pimblett and Michael Chandler. It was a tense fight with Chandler having some good moments before Pimblett took control and stopped the American in the third round. It now leaves Chandler 2-5 in the UFC. As a result of this, many fighters have warned Chandler to step away from the Octagon.
Speaking on the Pound4Pound Podcast with Kamaru Usman, Henry Cejudo said, “I think Chandler should have just one more fight, man. I really do. I think we should retire together, maybe on the same card.”
“If I’m Michael Chandler, yeah, I’d retire, bro. That’s too many beatings, dude.”
Henry Cejudo went on to say, “It’s not even taking L’s, he’s taking elbows to the face, he’s always cut and bloody. He’s gonna be beloved by people, but he’s lost all of his fights, and people just forget.”
Paddy Pimblett Looks to Secure Title Opportunity
Following his dominant performance over Michael Chandler, Paddy Pimblett will be looking to secure a shot at UFC gold. The Liverpool fighter is in a tough division with big names such as Dustin Poirier and Charles Oliveria ahead of him.
Furthermore, with no upcoming fight having been announced for Islam Makhachev, it could mean the British fighter is left waiting for a title opportunity. Known for his unique fighting style, Paddy Pimblett made his name at Cage Warriors before transitioning to the UFC. Pimblett is currently on a six-fight winning streak in the promotion.
Despite all this, it shows how dominant UK fighters are at the moment, with heavyweight Tom Aspinall next for a title fight with Jon Jones. Paddy Pimblett could himself fight for the title next, depending on the UFC and certain matchups.
