Eubank Jr gives a generous surprise compensation to undercard fighters affected by the cancellation of his 2022 Conor Benn bout.
Their fight was called off after Benn’s voluntary anti-doping tests returned two adverse findings for a banned substance.
They will finally meet in the ring on April 26th at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with pride on the line.
Eubank gives the generous surprise of compensation for training camp fees which fighters had not been previously reimbursed for.
The 35-year-old took to social media to share screenshots of bank transfers to the fighters affected.
He wrote: “Here’s a little something to help out the undercard fighters that were left out of pocket.”
“Few boxers didn’t want to give me their bank details… maybe they will now.”
Shannon Courtenay took to her socials thanking him for the generous surprise compensation, calling him a “man of his word”.
Also the current IBF and WBO super-bantamweight champion, Ellie Scotney, wrote “what a guy” as a reaction to the gesture.
Why was the 2022 Benn fight called off?
The ‘Destroyers’ positive test shocked the boxing world, setting off a two year battle to clear his name.
He has always denied intentionally doping with the WBC in 2023 claiming it was caused by “highly elevated” ingestion of eggs.
But last year his UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) suspension was lifted and the charge was dropped after a panel decided they were not ‘comfortably satisfied’ UKAD had proved his violation for clomiphene use.
Now both fighters have again signed up to a testing programme for this fight.
Eubank Jr vs Benn build-up
They will now be able to settle their differences, dating back to their fathers famous rivalry, in the ring after a tense and controversial build-up.
After their first face off, Eubank Jr was fined £100,000 by the British Boxing Board when he slapped an egg across the face of his opponent leading to separation at future media appearances.
Given the family history, the 28-year-old will be flanked in his corner by his father Nigel on the night.
However, his opponent will be without Chris Sr who has distanced himself publicly from his son describing him as a “disgrace” due to his behaviour.
