Dustin Poirier reignited his long standing feud with Conor McGregor.
The lightweight also suggested his next fight could be his last in MMA.
Poirier and McGregor have a genuine distain towards one another following comments made by the Irishman.
Dustin Poirier Issues Conor McGregor Warning
In the past decade, both Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier have fought three times. The American has won two of those fights with McGregor winning the first bout in 2014. Speaking to TalkSport Dustin Poirier said; “No, of course not. We will fight to the death if I see him…I don’t respect him as a man. As an athlete and a fighter, he’s done some incredible things. He’s very gifted and is special in that way when it comes to combat but as a human being? Nah”
Following this, there were rumours of a fourth fight between the pair but that has since fallen through. Furthermore, the pair have been separated when at UFC events due to their hostility towards one another. Conor McGregor is one of the UFC’s biggest stars who has taken MMA globally with his trash-talking and press conferences. However, the Irishman is also a highly skilled fighter winning consecutive belts in the promotion.
‘Diamond’ Could Retire After Next Fight
Dustin Poirier is one of the most underrated fighters in the sport. The Louisiana fighter, who has fought some of the best in the business, has always fallen short of UFC gold. When discussing his retirement the ‘Diamond’ said; “My next fight will be my last fight.”
“I’m going to put the gloves down and I’m just hoping I will be able to do that here in New Orleans, Louisiana. You know, where I picked them up. I started fighting in Louisiana; I would love to retire here in Louisiana in the summer. Me and the UFC have been talking about this, they’re trying to get the state of Louisiana on board, New Orleans on board and we’re pushing for the summer so I really hope it comes together man.”
Furthermore, with Poirier approaching his 40th professional fight retirement was always on the horizon. Dustin’s last performance which was an absolute thriller with Islam Makhachev resulted in Poirier being submitted in round 5. The question remains who will Dustin Poirier face in potentially his last fight?
