Dave Allen has questioned the world title credentials of Fabio Wardley before his Portman Road showcase against Justis Huni.
Wardley is preparing to fight in his boyhood club’s stadium with the bout having an important ranking belt attached.
The winner will receive the WBA interim heavyweight title which would give them a ticket to a world championship fight.
One heavyweight who is unsure of a world title fight for the Ipswich man is Allen.
The 33-year-old had his say on why he believes Wardley is not up to task just yet.
He said: “People talking about world titles for (Wardley), his best wins Frazer Clarke, whose best win is me.
“So I look at him and I think he has a very long way to go and Huni was a very good amateur but if Huni was going to the top would he be boxing Wardley on a few weeks notice?
“You wouldn’t be throwing your best prospect in on five weeks notice with Wardley would you, so there are questions for me on both of them.”
Allen retired in the Clarke fight after an injury to his eardrum but bounced back with his performances against Johnny Fisher.
Wardley drew in his first fight against the Olympian but finished him in the rematch with a devastating TKO.
Wardley predicts a potential Allen v Wilder clash
Doncaster’s own is just coming off of a big win himself where he earned a WBA international title – his first ever boxing belt.
Talk has even started to emerge of the ‘White Rhino’ potentially being an opponent for Deontay Wilder.
But when asked for a prediction by the Stomping Ground, Fabio was unsure of his chances.
He said: “Whether he beats him or not I don’t know. You can’t old man Deontay Wilder like you did Johnny Fisher.
“What Wilder lacks in skill and all the rest, he just has that lights out power that can switch people off so easily.
“And someone like Dave who is prone to getting caught, that may not end well for him.”
Would Wardley take a fight with Allen?
A bout between these two popular British heavyweights would excite the domestic fan – but Wardley is uninterested.
When asked by Boxing Now if he would entertain an Allen or Wilder fight, he said: “Not really no.
“I’m on a very focused and direct trajectory, none of those guys really fall in that line, they are not of any use to me in a sense of where I am trying to go.”
Instead his attention is firmly on his huge clash with the Australian which is an opportunity to cement his name near the top of the division.
