Chris Eubank Jr narrowly misses weight ahead of his fight with Conor Benn
There has been more drama in the build-up to the anticipated fight between Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn after Eubank narrowly missed weight earlier today.
Chris Eubank Jr missed the middleweight limit of 160 lbs after having two attempts to make weight. Initially, Eubank weighed in at 160.2 pounds on his first attempt at weighing in. On his second attempt, the 35-year-old was still narrowly over, weighing in at 160.05 pounds.
Due to Chris Eubank Jr missing the contractual weight, he will be fined £375,000 according to reports from The Ring Magazine.
The fight is still set to go ahead, and the 12-round contest between the two set to take place at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium continues to be clouded in controversy.
Conor Benn reacts to Eubank missing weight
Conor Benn had no issues, on the other hand, weighing in at well below the middleweight limit at 156.4 pounds.
Benn reacted to his rival missing weight by posting on his account on X, saying:
“Christopher, who are you trying to fool and get sympathy from? I’m coming UP to your weight, a weight you’ve made your last 3 fights and most of your career! It’s like you’re looking for excuses already? First time you’ve ever missed weight and first time you’ve ever posted a weight cut.”
Before this statement, Benn also posted a video of him mocking Chris Eubank Jr after learning about his mishap on the scales.
Potentially more weight drama to come
Due to the rehydration clause in the contract, preventing either man from weighing more than 170 lbs on Saturday morning, Chris Eubank Jr still has one more weigh-in before fight night.
If Eubank comes in over the limit again, he will receive a further penalty.
In addition to the fines Eubank has already received from smashing an egg over Conor Benn at a press conference and the one earlier today for missing weight, there could be yet another fine waiting for Chris Eubank Jr if he fails to abide by the rehydration clause.
