The former champion is set to face Ilia Topuria after he vacated the featherweight title earlier this year.
Fans are excited to see who comes out on top, with Topuria holding the advantage on the feet but Oliveira holding the advantage in the grappling.
Charles Oliveira Reveals Reaction to UFC 317 Announcement
This morning, Dana White revealed the main event for UFC 317. With Islam Makhachev wanting to face the new welterweight champion Jack Della Maddalena, the Dagestani fighter relinquished his lightweight belt. As a result, Charles Oliveira is now set to face Ilia Topuria on June 28th.
Charles Oliveira revealed his reaction to the announcement. The Brazilian said, “Everyone started yelling, the kid’s screaming, and all that,” Oliveira said on MMA Today. I grabbed the phone, saw thousands of messages, and went straight to [my coach, Diego Lima].
“That’s it, let’s go. We’re ready, forty-six days for this belt to return where it never should have left.”
This fight will be the Brazilians third title fight in his UFC career. Blessed with incredible wrestling and grappling Charles Oliveira is will be looking to reclaim his belt that was ‘wrongfully taken from him.’
Ilia Topuria Set for Tough Test in Lightweight Debut
Following his knockout victory over UFC legend Max Holloway, Ilia Topuria has repeatedly stated his desire to move up to the lightweight division. The UFC has given the Spanish fighter his wish and paired him up against a tough UFC opponent.
