UFC Roster React to Charles Oliveira Defeating Michael Chandler at UFC 309
The co-main event of UFC 309 delivered another classic as Charles Oliveira defeated Michael Chandler by unanimous decision. The five-round battle at Madison Square Garden showcased Oliveira’s dominance and Chandler’s resilience, leaving fans and fighters buzzing.
A Rivalry Revisited Between Michael Chandler and Charles Oliveira
This was the second meeting between Oliveira and Chandler, with the pair first clashing for the vacant lightweight title at UFC 262. In their initial encounter, Oliveira secured a second-round TKO to claim the belt.
Coming into UFC 309, Oliveira was looking to bounce back from a split-decision loss to Arman Tsarukyan earlier this year. Meanwhile, Chandler was returning after a two-year hiatus, eager to re-establish himself in the division following a submission loss to Dustin Poirier in 2022.
A Back-and-Forth War
From the opening bell, Oliveira displayed his world-class striking and grappling, dominating Chandler on the feet and on the ground for the first four rounds. Chandler, however, refused to go down without a fight. In the fifth round, he launched a furious comeback, connecting with powerful strikes that had Oliveira on the defensive.
Despite Chandler’s late surge, Oliveira remained composed, securing multiple takedowns in the final minute to seal the victory.
The judges scored the fight unanimously for Oliveira: 49-46, 49-46, and 49-45.
