UFC legend Chael Sonnen claimed that he is the backup fighter in case Mike Tyson is unable to fight Jake Paul.
Tyson who suffered a medical emergency onboard a plane yesterday is a doubt to even feature on the card.
Another person who has thrown their name into the hat is professional boxer Ryan Garcia.
Chael Sonnen claims he is the backup fighter
UFC veteran and legend Chael Sonnen has told reporters he is the backup fighter if Mike Tyson is unable to compete. Tweeting on X (formerly Twitter) the American tweeted; “I guess it was wise of Jake Paul to write me into the contract as Tyson’s backup, wasn’t it???”
Sonnen then went on to say; “If Jake Paul realizes he might be fighting ME in a month, HE may be the one having a heart attack”
Chael Sonnen who is set to fight former UFC Champion Anderson Silva on the 15th of June, could be a interesting backup for Mike Tyson.
With the American well known for his excellent striking ability and infamous trash talk. It remains to be seen whether Chael does in fact step to fight Jake Paul. Sonnen is formidable opponent for Jake Paul but his last fight was back in 2019.
Mike Tyson suffers medical emergency
Former boxing heavyweight champion Mike Tyson suffered a medical emergency on board a flight. Whilst afterwards Tyson said he was fine, fans have been extremely worried for the fifty seven year old. Tyson had felt dizzy and nauseous following a ulcer flareup.
With this being the latest scare for the former champion, fans alike have been hoping that Mike Tyson does pull out of the bout.
Following on from this, Mike Tyson himself said; “Now feeling 100% even though I don’t need to be to beat Jake Paul.” This clearly suggests that Tyson isn’t planning to step down form the fight.
Chael Sonnen may just be the backup fighter in case Mike Tyson is unable to fight closer to the fight date. If Tyson’s believes the fight is going ahead with him featuring. There will be no stopping the former heavyweight champion from stepping into the ring.
Ryan Garcia offers to step up
Professional boxer Ryan Garcia has also thrown his name into the fray. Garcia and Jake Paul have had several spats on Twitter with the pair having a huge disdain for each other.
With Mike Tyson’s health problems casting doubts on whether he will fight. Garcia believes that he is the man to step up and beat Jake Paul. Garcia who is currently suspended following adverse findings in his drug test results. The 140 pound fighter has been vocal on X after news surfaced of Tyson’s health.
On his official X account Ryan Garcia said; “If Mike can’t fight I’ll sub in.” Whilst many are sceptical the pair will actually fight. Garcia will be a much better opponent for Paul as both Chael Sonnen and Mike Tyson are well out of their prime and are coming out of retirement.
Garcia went on to say he wants to fight Paul “for fun.” As well as this Garcia also shared that he personally messaged Jake Paul saying he is willing to step up to fight the YouTuber turned boxer.
