Tyson Fury teases a return to the ring after retiring in January
It’s fair to say that the retirement of Tyson Fury in January was met with scepticism from the boxing world after his second loss to Oleksandr Usyk.
Tyson Fury has returned from retirement on four previous occasions. This time also looks to be no different after a recent hint on social media.
Fury posted a video to his Instagram account showing him reuniting with his trainer SugarHill Steward, with the former heavyweight champion saying:
“Just in the gym. Happened to bump into somebody you might know,” Fury said. The camera then turned to Steward, who replied: “You know what time it is.”
Fury then responded with:
“You know what’s coming.”
If Fury is planning on returning to the ring, a fight with Anthony Joshua is still one of the biggest in boxing.
The fact that the pair have not already fought on multiple occasions is nothing short of a travesty. However, the fighters and promoters can still make things right.
The fight between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua makes perfect sense for both fighters at this stage of their careers. A potential fight between the two would be a perfect opportunity for both former champions to generate extraordinary amounts of money before calling time on their career.
Alternatively, the winner of their fight could be propelled straight back into title contention. This would present both men with an opportunity to become a three-time heavyweight champion.
Whilst neither Tyson Fury nor Anthony Joshua appear to be in their primes anymore, it is a fight that is valuable to both for their respective legacies.
With Turki Alalshikh effectively running boxing in 2025 and breaking barriers between promoters, this fight has never seemed more achievable than it is now.
Potential Usyk trilogy?
Despite losing to Oleksandr Usyk twice, Tyson Fury still maintains that he won those fights.
Usyk has recently been confirmed to be rematching Daniel Dubois for undisputed status at heavyweight. The Ukrainian’s fight with Dubois is set to take place in July at Wembley Stadium.
When doing media for his next fight, Usyk revealed in an interview with The Stomping Ground that he plans to fight two more times before retiring.
The first of these two fights will be against Dubois. But Usyk said he would be open to a trilogy with Joshua or Fury for his retirement fight.
Fury was quick to reply to this claim and reignite hostilities with his rival.
He commented underneath the interview with Usyk, saying:
“Beat the f*cker 2 times and the world knows the truth. Anytime, any place. UK next time, 100k people.”
A potential trilogy bout with Usyk could be a perfect reason for Tyson Fury to end his retirement. An opportunity to avenge the only losses of his professional career would provide plenty of motivation for the 36-year-old, who will want to be remembered as the best of his generation.
