Bill Haney has sent Richardson Hitchins a strong message ahead of his clash with George Kambosos.
The trainer has been in and around fight week for the New York city clash – even heckling during the press conference.
Hitchins now faces Kambosos tonight in a defence of his IBF super lightweight crown.
While the New Yorker may have home advantage, the arena is home to the Australians finest night in the sport.
The 32-year-old put on his career best performance to defeat Teofimo Lopez on points and become the unified champion.
But this fact is exactly why Haney has delivered a message to his rival.
Speaking to FightHype, he said: “This is no place where you want to play with Kambosos.
“You saw what he did to Teofimo Lopez.
“Hitchins, stay focused.”
The Haney’s are now stranger to tackling the task of this ‘Ferocious’ fighter themselves.
Twice ‘The Dream’ has travelled to the backyard of Kambosos and beaten him twice to take the undisputed belts.
Hitchins on rival Devin Haney
While offering advice to rivals, his son faced scrutiny for a lackluster performance against Jose Ramirez in Times Square.
The Brooklyn fighter has been outspoken in regards to his thoughts on Devin, claiming he is ‘better’ than the former champion.
The current super lightweight champion was asked about people ‘ducking’ him but offered an alternative perspective on the question.
“I don’t feel like they’re ducking me, I feel like they just terrified of me, scared of me,” he said.
“These guys do not want to fight. I’ve been calling these guys out since how long? I’ve been calling Devin — Devin Haney haven’t said my name yet about a fight.”
But the choice words did not end there, he explained: “This guy will bring up women, he’ll bring up money, he’ll bring up this, that — but let’s fight.
“I seen his daddy the other day in the gym and I told him that once I got to the division his son was out of there but his son is fighting catchweights.
“I’ll come to a catchweight too, it don’t matter. And that’s facts.”
