The rising lightweight star Paddy Pimblett featured heavily in the aftermath of UFC 317 as his feud with Ilia Topuria grew evermore fierce.
At UFC 317 Pimblett entered the octagon post main event to have a viral interaction with the now pound for pound number one Topuria. The pair have had a long standing rivalry dating back to March 2022 after a hotel scuffle. This was prior to the incredible UFC London event which featured both men. On that famous night Topuria faced Jai Herbert and produced a chilling KO after getting dropped early in the fight. Pimblett delivered a first round submission over Rodrigo Vargas further up the main card. Their intertwined careers could finally collide inside the cage for UFC Lightweight gold in the near future.
UFC 319 Co-Main Rumours
Many believe for Paddy Pimblett to earn his shot at lightweight gold he needs one more victory against the divisions elite. The last performance at UFC 314 was by far a career best and fans are excited to see if that level rises once again, against better opposition. Justin Gaethje is one of the men in question to face Pimblett. These rumours intensified massively thanks to Middleweight champion Dricus Du Plessis. The South African headlines UFC 319 and spoke with Ahmed Amwell about the card and the possible co main event.
The clip circled around rapidly as fans salivated over the match up. Unfortunately, Pimblett addressed and quashed these rumours rather bluntly on X.
The date appears to be the sticking point. Particularly, as Pimblett has spoken confidently regarding a match up with Gaethje on his quest to UFC gold. However, recent news around Gaethje appears that he was sitting out waiting for a title shot that he felt was owed to him. The other candidate at the top of the 155lbs division is Arman Tsarukyan. The Armenian was supposed to fight for the belt in January but pulled out right last minute. This infuriated Dana White and even though he weighed in as the back up at UFC 317 there is no guarantee he gets the next shot at newly crowned king Topuria.
Who do you think gets the next title shot at 155lbs?
