Georges St-Pierre praised Belal Muhammad ahead of his upcoming fight against Jack Della Maddalena in his first title defense at UFC 315.
GSP became the welterweight division champion in 2008 and is regarded as one of the sport’s greatest fighters ever.
Georges St-Pierre Praises The Welterweight Champion
Speaking to Bloody Elbow, the former champion said, “Belal is the complete package. He’s good everywhere, and he’s got a very awkward style that throws a lot of people off, especially standing up in the striking department. Jack, on the other side, he’s on a tear. He’s got a good momentum, he’s on a winning streak and it’s going to be an interesting fight.
“On one side, Jack I think, could have the advantages in the striking department, but it’s not only a kickboxing match, it’s mixed martial arts, and that’s when I believe Belal Muhammad takes advantage of it. I think he’s got more tools to win, but that doesn’t mean that he’s going to win.”
Belal Muhammad Faces a Rising Contender at UFC 315
Despite being the champion, many fans discredit Belal Muhammad. The welterweight champion has been accused of being a boring fighter, with fans unimpressed with the champion. However, Belal has a unique fighting style, which is difficult for his opponents, as Georges St-Pierre alluded to. Blessed with incredible grappling skills and cardio, Belal Muhammad has risen through the rankings and claimed UFC gold against Leon Edwards.
However, on the other hand, Jack Della Maddalena is a tough opponent. The Australian who has ascended the rankings quickly through his flash performances is looking to become the champion. Whilst the champion focuses on wrestling in his fights, the Aussie relies on his boxing to finish his opponents.
It was initially announced that Shavkat Rakhmonov would take on Belal Muhammad, but an injury to the number one-ranked contender ruled him out. As a result, Jack Della Maddalena stepped up and is now set to face Belal Muhammad at UFC 315.
