Fabio Wardley was set to face Jarrell “Big Baby” Miller on June 7th for the WBA interim belt however it is not to be. It was announced on social media that Miller had to withdraw from the fight due to a shoulder injury. This unfortunate injury had the potential to throw a spanner in the works for this entire card but all was not lost. The announcement made sure to say a suitable replacement would be found and that is what has happened. It was announced that Wardley will now be fighting Justis Huni.
Fabio Wardley vs Justis Huni
The bout will still be for the interim WBA title however the opponent will now be Huni. Huni is a 12-0 up and comer not to dissimilar from Wardley in his current position in the rankings. The Australian is 26 years old with a height of 6’4 and is roughly about 240lbs and a solid amateur career. In the amateurs he has notable wins over Olympic silver medallist Richard Torrez Jr and Olympian Teremoana Teremoana.
In the pros Huni has been clearing up the domestic Australian scene with ease. Most notably, Huni has a win that has aged quite well over Kevin Lerena 31-3 who is a newly crowned WBC bridgerweight champion. Despite the win Huni struggled with Lerena.
This should be quite a different fight compared to Miller with how Wardley and Huni’s styles match up. Huni is much more of a technical boxer, especially compared to Miller, and does not have the chin of Miller or experience. So this will be a lot more of a classic boxer vs puncher match-up. However, how much trouble Huni will be able to give Wardley is questionable. Lerena gave Huni a very tough fight and Wardley is far more dangerous fighter. No doubt that regardless the fight as with all Fabio Wardley fights will be entertaining.
