Matchroom Boxing recently announced one of the newest additions to their promotion, Tiah Mai Ayton. Ayton has been a standout in the women’s amateur featherweight division. The 18-year-old will be making her professional debut with Matchroom in Birmingham on June 21st on the undercard of Yafai vs Rodriguez. Before she goes pro let’s first look at her amateur career.
Ayton in the Amateurs
Despite her youth Ayton has an impressive amateur record of 21-0 from 2021-2025. In quite a short amount of time she’s managed to rack up wins and win national and international tournaments. In 2022 she won her first major tournament The Three Nations Championships for females jr 60kg category. Later that year she would win the NABC.
In 2024 she won the Youth Nationals and the Female Youth Haringey Box Cup. Following this she would then go international and continue to have success at the world level. Ayton won the World Under Nineteen Championships in the 57 Kg category. In her final fight as an amateur in 2025 she won The Golden Girl Championship Tournament in the 60kg category.
So, despite the relatively short amateur career of 4 years, Tiah Mai Ayton managed to achieve quite a lot. Given her youth and success, it is a little surprising she didn’t stick around a little longer. Interestingly, Ayton did reveal she was offered a contract with Team GB but declined because she believes her style is more suited for the pros. This does explain the early turnover and makes her debut even more interesting. We shall see how her professional career goes, but Eddie Hearn has high hopes for his newly signed prospect.
