Anthony Joshua shares a big update on his injury and a potential date for his anticipated in-ring return.
The British heavyweight has not fought since his shocking knockout loss to Daniel Dubois in September.
But speaking to DAZN, Joshua revealed a big update on his injury status ahead of a potential 2025 return.
He said: “I’m trying to get my body right. I have got to actually have a little surgery on my elbow.
“A small surgery sometime in May, I’m finalising the details.
“That will see me out of the gym for maybe six to eight weeks, and then when I’m healed, I will be back.”
However, it is looking promising that we will see the 25-year-old in the ring by the end of the year.
He revealed a tentative return date to ESPN Knockout this past weekend at the Canelo Alvarez vs William Scull fight.
“December I will fight again,” he said.
“That’s when I want to fight again, I’ll take some time and I will go in December.”
The Ben Davidson trained fighter would have a massive 15 month layoff from in-ring competition by then.
Although, he will take a potential December fight date as a chance to restart after a disastrous night in Wembley Stadium.
Potential for Fury vs AJ?
This news coincides with Tyson Fury’s comments on potentially coming out of retirement (again).
A video of the ‘Gypsy King’ and trainer SugarHill Steward was shared on social media of the two in the gym.
“Just in the gym, happened to bump into somebody you might know,” Fury exclaimed.
“You know what’s coming.”
It is not just this comment which sparked the attention of boxing fans.
During the media week for Oleksandr Usyks rematch with Daniel Dubois for the undisputed heavyweight title, the Ukrainian was asked about his former foe.
“He’s not retired. I think Tyson will continue training, continue boxing, because he’s a great man,” he said.
“Yes, Tyson Fury… a lot of speak – blah blah blah blah – but it’s good. Great man, wow.”
Once again the former WBC heavyweight champion took to social media to react to Usyk’s comments.
He said: “Beat the f***er 2 times the world knows the truth.
“Any time, any place. sucher UK next time 100k people.”
All this noise from both Fury only excites fans who want to see him and his fellow Brit Joshua face off for the first time.
The event would be one of the biggest in British boxing for sometime with the potential to draw in an exceptional crowd.
If there is one fight which both would want as soon as possible it would be this one.
