Tom Aspinall revealed his frustration over his supposed fight delay with Jon Jones.
Aspinall is hoping to become the first UK UFC heavyweight champion and holds the interim belt.
Despite the UFC wanting to schedule the fight nothing has so far materialised.
TOm Aspinall Reveals Mental Frustration Over Fight Delay
MMA fans are starting to become frustrated with the delay over a potential super fight between current champion Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall. Jones, who hasn’t fought since beating Stipe Miocic, is holding the fight up, according to the Manchester fighter. Speaking to Demetrious Johnson, the interim champion said, “Now, I’ve been almost a year inactive with no prospect of anything apart from wait. So now is actually a little bit more of a tricky time for me mentally than it was then.
“I constantly had little goals to work towards, whereas now it’s like, ‘Right, just be ready and we’ll let you know’, it’s kind of difficult mentally.”
As well as this, Aspinall’s father, Andy, revealed his frustration as to why the UFC doesn’t make Jones vacant. Furthermore, the fight has been in the works for several months, with Dana White constantly stating the fight is close to being materialised.
Jon Jones: Champion Key to Making Super Fight Happen
There is no doubt about how much influence Jon Jones has in the heavyweight division. The American holds the belt and is regarded as the GOAT of MMA. However, it is no secret that Jones wants Alex Pereira to fight him instead of Tom Aspinall.
Many fans now hold the American countable for delaying the fight. Some even suggest Jon Jones is scared of the challenger. Jones, who has excellent grappling ability, is the key to making the fight happen, with the UFC seemingly unwilling to make him vacate his belt.
On the other hand, Tom Aspinall is vying to become the UK’s first heavyweight champion within the UFC. Blessed with agility, Aspinall has finished all his opponents, with Curtis Blaydes the last of them.
