Oscar De La Hoya Claims ‘Boxing right now is thriving’

Oscar De La Hoya has claimed that boxing is thriving right now as he looks towards a historic night at Times Square.

De La Hoya has been very compilmetray of the state if boxing as he now looks towards co-promoting the Ring Magazine Times Square card.

The Mexican promoter will play a massive part in creating history by putting the first ever boxing event in Times Square on.

Ryan Garcia will take on Rolly Romero that night with De La Hoya supporting Garcia in Thursday’s media workout

The promoter has claimed that the plan was to shock the world and create something new.

“We’re all about making big events in strange places that no one has ever thought of. Collectively, we thought, why not Times Square? Why not outdoors and free for the public, where everyone can watch. It’s the media capital of the world. It was about time. So Golden Boy, Turki came together and we made it happen.” De La Hoya said at The BXNG Club.

Oscar De La Hoya Had His Reservations-

De La Hoya initially had his reservations about the card saying a lot could go wrong.

“You have your reservations, and you’re thinking about the weather and outdoors, and things can happen,” De La Hoya said. “We’re very optimistic. We feel May 2 is going to be perfect. Hopefully, the weather is beautiful for everyone to watch. We’re expecting over 200,000 people there to watch.”

The card will be co promoted alongside Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom.

Hearn has had his clashes with De La Hoya but since the introduction of Turki Alalshikh the two have made business together very smooth.

The card will be under the Turki Alalshikh’s owned Ring Magazine banner which Eubank Jr and Conor Benn will fight under next week in London.

Oscar De La Hoya has said that teamwork is key to continuing this high for boxing.

“Boxing right now is thriving and on the verge of really great things. We have to collectively work together as a team. The whole sport of boxing has to figure out how to work together. We have to navigate how to work with every promoter.”

He also mentioned that more ‘global events’ like May 2nd need to happen.

“Right now, things are coming together for boxing. That’s what matters. We have the best fights taking place. May 2 is a global event. That’s what boxing needs. We must continue giving fight fans the best fights.”
