UFC flyweight Maycee Barber has broken her silence after a last-minute withdrawal from the UFC Vegas 107 main event.
The 27-year-old was set to face top-five contender Erin Blanchfield in a bout that would help establish the pecking order in the women’s 125lb division.
Bad blood was already brewing between the pair when Barber missed weight by half a pound during Friday’s morning weigh-in.
With the weight miss behind her, she was ready to make the walk to the Octagon until a “last-minute medical issue” rendered her unable to compete by the UFC doctors.
This was all explained by Brendan Fitzgerald and his fellow commentary team after the promotional package for the fight had aired.
Barber has had a history of withdrawals during her time as a UFC fighter, with this being her third since 2021.
‘The Future’ addressed the issue in an Instagram post on Sunday.
She said: “Not what I had planned for a Sunday post.
“Thank you to everyone for the prayers & support I owe an apology to @ufc @mickmaynard2 @danawhite @seanshelby & @blanchfield_mma.
“** PS my life is not messy this is just a bad hand.
“We will get to the bottom of it all and be back.”
What Caused Maycee Barber to Withdraw?
There has not yet been a definitive reason given for the late pullout from the fight, although Erin Blanchfield has had her say.
She was reportedly told by UFC executive Hunter Campbell that a seizure in the locker room was the reason. It is unclear whether the weight miss had any part in said medical issue.
However, Blanchfield was not at all sympathetic towards her opponent.
She said: “She needs to look at another division.
“She needs to fix her life, she needs to fix herself.
“I think she’s a mess in every aspect of her entire life.”
