Dan Hooker Criticised by Boxing President
Following, the creation of Dan Hookers’ promotion it has sparked fury among boxing fans and pundits. The latest of those is Billy Meehan, who is New Zealand’s Boxing Coaches Association president, who criticised the organisation. Speaking to Checkpoint, Meehan said, “The rules are a lot different [in boxing],” Billy Meehan said. “For starters, we don’t do one-minute rounds. You’re saying to the guy in the corner get out and start smashing the other guy as best you can. Boxing is an art form; it’s a sport, and this is straight-out thuggery.
“What you’ve got there is just thugs getting in there and going out, and they’re just like absolutely smashing each other, and we’re going to see somebody get seriously hurt, if not killed. It’s got to be sanctioned by a sanctioning body. They’re not even advertising where they’re holding this, so the police don’t even know.
“People who can hold boxing tournaments are actually listed on the Wrestling and Boxing Act. Dan Hooker’s not on the Wrestling and Boxing Act.”
MMA Stars Transition Into Their Own Promotions
It is not just Dan Hooker who has started his own boxing organisation; Khabib Nurmagomedov and Jorge Masvidal have started their own promotion. As well as this, Korean Zombie, since retiring, has set up his own MMA organisation in Korea. Whilst many traditionally wait till retiring and then start their own organisation Hooker is still active within the UFC. His aggressive fighting style and no-nonsense attitude have made him a fan favourite.
As well as this, following the growth of MMA within Australia and New Zealand, it has seen a catapult of fighters from both countries competing in the UFC. Dan Hookers latest move into promoting an MMA organisation regarded as dangerous, it could lead to him rebranding the organisation.
